Organiser – Friends of the Earth Asia Pacific
The Asia Pacific region of Friends of the Earth is the most diverse region of the FoE federation, encompassing groups from the global North and the global South including Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, South Korea, Japan.

Member groups from the region are very active in community based struggles against mining and other extractive industries. They work hand-in-hand with indigenous peoples, peasant farmers, and fisherfolk to secure sustainable livelihoods and fight against vulnerability to “natural disasters”. Groups from the region host coordinators for the FoEI Climate Justice & Energy program,  FoEI agrofuels campaign and the FoEI Mining, Oil & Gas program

Host – Sahabat Alam Malaysia / Friends of the Earth Malaysia
Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) was founded in 1977 to combat worsening environmental deterioration triggered by the country’s rapid development. SAM joined FoEI in 1983, and publishes a number of books and newsletters in English and in Bahasa Malaysia. The group’s campaign work encompasses pollution, land-use, deforestation, fisheries, energy, water, dams, agriculture, Indigenous people’s rights and tourism. It has offices in Penang and Sarawak

Other groups in partnership with the conference include 13 FoE International member groups from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific and the local community groups they are in partnership with focusing on Forests & Biodiversity and Climate Justice.
